Top 10 Writing Tips
Writing is one of the best ways to express yourself.
Some may struggle with writing, or beginning to write, so here are our top ten tips for writing.
1. Create a writing space in your home
Having a specific writing place can help improve your productivity whenever you choose to write. This place is separated from the surrounding areas, and you can therefore associate that separated area as your writing space. This association will help increase productivity.
2. Make the most of opportunities to observe others
Making observations of others going about their daily life can help you to improve your existing characters or build new characters.
3. Learn the rules of grammar and stick to them
Be sure to learn all the rules of grammar, and stick to these rules. You do not want your book to seem unprofessional. Ensure your grammar is consistent throughout your book.
4. Read whenever you get the chance to
Reading is one of the best ways to improve your writing and knowledge, giving you more ideas on what to write, how to write it, new vocabulary, and more. Whenever you get the chance to read, read.
5. Always have a notebook or journal to hand
Having a notebook or journal with you at all times, to write down any ideas or observations, is essential. You may have an amazing idea for a new book or improvements for your current book; but without something to write it in, it could be forgotten.
6. Proofread everything at least three times before submitting it anywhere
Before submitting or putting your work anywhere; proofread, proofread and proofread again. Proofreading is the most important step in finishing your book. It eliminates any mistakes you made whilst writing.
7. Join a writers' group and get feedback
Making the most of the writing community is one of the most beneficial things you can do for personal growth. The writing community will give you the feedback you need to improve.
8. Write through writers block
If you stumble upon writer’s block, simply write through it. If you allow writer’s block to force you out of your routine, you may never get rid of your writer’s block.
9. Know why you're writing and remember it
There is always a reason for everything. Remember the reason you’re writing, and don’t allow any hurdle to get in the way of you fulfilling this reason.
10. Stop procrastinating
When writing your book, you have to try your hardest to not let procrastination beat you. As mentioned above, don’t forget your goal and don’t let procrastination stop you from reaching this goal.
Taking the step from idea to writing your book can be a difficult task. We hope these ten tips have helped inspire you to take that all-important step!
