Quick Author SEO Tips
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the process which enables an improvement in search engine rankings.
The higher you rank in search engine results, the higher the chance of increased website traffic
When people want to find new authors, or new books to read, they will use keywords to search for what they’re interested in. SEO involves using these keywords within your website / content to ensure that search engines understand your website is relevant to certain searches. The more relevant keywords are to searches, the higher your website will be ranked. As mentioned, the higher the ranking, the higher the chance of more website traffic.
Here are some quick author SEO tips that will help your author website be seen more...
Keywords are the words, or phrases, that are relevant to your content. Keywords are what people search on search engines to find certain websites or pieces of information.
Keywords play a massive role in search engine optimisation. However, you will need to make sure your keywords are relevant and used frequently by your target audience. This will involve a huge amount of research.
This research can be done through tools such as Google Keyword Planner, or it can be done by yourself on search engines or simply looking at websites similar to yours and determining what keywords they’re using. It can also be good practice to search keywords you think are relevant to you and seeing what comes up.
Besides research, you can create lists of keywords that you think are relevant, a list that your friends and family think are relevant and any other list you see suitable. It’s then a matter of refining your list and choosing the most effective keywords that you think your target audience are going to use mostly to search for content similar to yours.
Keywords make your website more relevant and targeted
When it comes to keywords, you can always experiment and alter the keyword you choose whenever you want. It’s important to only include the keyword on each page (it will be different for each) a few times as keyword stuffing will be scrutinised by search engines.
You must only choose one keyword per webpage. Any more than that, your message won’t be as clear to search engines and visitors. You then just have to drop them into your content in whatever way you see fit. It’s good practice to include keywords within your H1 Heading (usually just a heading shown within your website), in the first 100 words and 2-3 after that.
It’s then a matter of ensuring your keyword for each webpage is placed within the URL, once in the page title and once within the meta description. The meta description is what summarises the pages content - and it appears under the title of the page in search engine results.
Backlinks are links on another website that direct people back to your website. These links can be from blogs, websites, directories, and so on. Backlinks indicate to search engines that you’re a credible authority, with a built up name in the niche you’re in
Backlinks can drive traffic to your website in two different ways; from ranking higher in searches and simply from people’s curiosities on the websites you are linked on. You must, however, ensure that all backlinks are from high quality and high authority sites; any links that are from unprofessional or suspicious websites can affect your potential ranking.
There are many ways to earn more backlinks…
i. Maintain a blog with good content; people will want to link to it
ii. Write guest blog posts
iii. Write reviews
iv. Create shareable content
